Artist Statement: Heroes, Icons and Inspiration

For four decades, my hands have formed and molded clay in a quiet dialogue with the masters who came before me. This collection is a tribute to that lineage - a synthesis of the techniques, philosophies, and spirits of the artists who shaped my path, informed my personal aesthetic, and helped define my notions of quality and the search for transcendence in the simplest of clay forms.

 

Each piece reflects a lifetime of observation. Whether echoing the raw, earth-bound textures of my early mentors or the refined, rhythmic geometries and primitive surfaces of those I studied in later years, these works are not mere imitations. They are a continuation of a conversation, a union of what these masters once created, and the offerings I fashion in my studio at this point in my life and career.  By revisiting the forms and makers that first inspired me, I hope to distill 40 years worth of experience into the essential marriage of fire and earth, while paying quiet homage to my heroes, icons, and inspirations.
